How to save checkpoints

By default checkpoints are automatically saved in the current directory under folder restart/. By default, a checkpoint is saved at every 1000 time step and after the last time step. The checkpoint frequency can be configured by the -r <int> command line argument.

How to restart from a checkpoint

Restarting from a checkpoint can be done by passing the +restart restart command line argument. Note that since the argument is preceded by +, this argument is interpreted by the runtime system. The first restart is the argument itself, and the second restart is the name of the folder in which the previous checkpoint was saved.
